Major Art Topics/Themes
Basic Curriculum for K-3:

  1. Create artwork in a variety of media, ultilizing the elements of art and principles of design.( art production)
  2. Identify and appreciate diverse cultures through art.
  3. Color Theory learned and reviewed in each grade level.
  4. Understanding and recognizing past and current artwork.(art history)
  5. Learning about different artists and their backgrounds.
  6. Recognize art as integral part of our environment.
  7. Learn to evaluate their artwork as well as others ( art criticism).


Kinder
Through various art projects students will study and learn: Beginning Color Theory, Self portraits-identifying parts of the face, Begining ceramics and sculpture, Critiquing their work, Elements of art and principles of design ( textures,lines,etc.) .


First
Through various art projects students will study and learn: Color Theory, perspective (one point) , Sculpture, Difference between portraiture,landscapes and still-life art, basic printing skills, world cultures, Ceramics, Elements of art and principles of design

Second
Through various art projects students will study and learn: Color Theory,perspective (one,two point), Foreground,middleground and background, Sculpture, Ceramics,Self portraits and figure drawing, Elements of art and principles of design


Third
Through various art projects students will study and learn: Color Theory, Self Portraits and figure drawing, Perspective, sculpture, landscapes and still life art, Ceramics, Critiquing their work and others, Elements of art and principles of design

Students techniques will develop each year through teaching the basics of art and expanding on those year to year. The projects become more in depth each year . They will also be introduced to various forms of media each year through a variety of projects, so they are familiar with these forms of media each year.
